Iguanodon

Iguanodon is a large terrestrial herbivore. Rearing up for combat, it stands its ground to injure opponents with its spiked thumbs and mighty kicks. Although not semi-aquatic, it is a good swimmer.

Description

Iguanodon's most iconic feature is its spiked thumb, which is believed to have served a combative purpose. Though it spends most of its time as a quadruped, it will rear up on its hind legs to run.

Paleo Info

Iguanodon, named in 1825, is a genus of ornithopod dinosaur that existed roughly halfway between the first of the swift bipedal hypsilophodontids of the mid-Jurassic and the duck-billed dinosaurs of the Late Cretaceous. While many species have been classified in the genus Iguanodon, dating from the late Jurassic Period to the early Cretaceous Period of Asia, Europe, and North America, taxonomic revision in the early 21st century has defined Iguanodon to be based on one well-substantiated species: I. bernissartensis, which lived from the late Barremian to the earliest Aptian ages (Early Cretaceous) in Belgium, Spain, Germany, England and possibly elsewhere in Europe, between about 126 and 122 million years ago. Iguanodon were large, bulky herbivores. Distinctive features include large thumb spikes, which were possibly used for defense against Predators combined with long prehensile fifth fingers able to forage for food. It was mainly quadrupedal but sometimes rose on two feet to browse. Iguanodon was also one of the first dinosaurs that were able to chew their food. Iguanodon belongs to the family Iguanodontidae.

Trivia

  • Iguanodon’s default skin with blue options almost coincidentally looks like the Iguanodon character Aladar, paying homage to Disney’s 2000 film “Dinosaur”.
  • When it was first released, Iguanodon was one of the fastest playables, catching up to Alioramus.
  • Iguanodon used to have a quadrupedal gallop for its running animation, which later changed to a bipedal run but then reverted back to a gallop for its TLC.
  • While it is still a fast playable, Iguanodon had one of the fastest stamina drains. It received a better stamina drain in the Nightstalker Update.
  • I. galvensis somewhat resembles Altirhinus, a Mongolian Iguanodontid.
  • Iguanodon’s Backer skin bears some resemblance to the Quagga, a recently extinct subspecies of Plains Zebra.
  • Iguanodon was the 4th Herbivore TLC of 2024 for Path of Titans and was released alongside the first carnivore TLC of 2024: The Deinonychus TLC.
  • Iguanodon is now a 4 slot as of the Iguanodon TLC.
